July09 Smokies trip
Spent the first night at the Rosewood Inn in Bryson City, whose gardens are tended with love by Patricia, a gentle & gracious Cherokee lady.
Our first afternoon on afternoon on Deep Creek, we saw a Golden Retriever riding a tube down the rapids, seeming much more calm than the humans he was with.
See the fishies in the water? Too bad they weren't trout. This year wasn't the greatest for the catching of trout.
I took the shot of the front of the Bryson City library because we spent a lot of time there this year, as Bill used the library internet to deal with real estate business in Murray.
We spent an afternoon at the land at Blackrock Creek, cutting weeds so we could find the road again. Still a beautiful spot, but the brambles on the greenhouse flat are growing frighteningly fast.
The trail up Indian Creek has seen better days.
We drove up to Waterrock Knob on the blue Ridge Parkway, and this time we hiked to the top, with a map and a compass to help me figure out where the Black Tock Creek land is from up there. We met some interesting characters on the hike, too.
We visited Bradley Creek and cooked supper at Collins Creek.
We drove over Newfound Gap and took the Roaring Forks (driving) nature trail. Saw some old cabins, hiked to an awesome waterfall, and saw a bear (but, he saw us first and was running away too fast for a photo op.)
Back at Deep Creek, we hiked far up the trail to a re
mote and beautiful spot I had never seen before.
Meanwhile, back at Deep Creek Campground, we had the best campsite ever
.
Back in the tubing section of Deep Creek, we were pleased to see a group of women tubing in head scarves. They seemed to be enjoying themselves.
On our last day at, we went down to the Nantahalah gorge and fished, ending up with supper in the River's End Restaurant.
